[BYWG BLOG]8 Natural Stress Busters

While life always offers its own variety of daily stresses, the current global COVID-19 pandemic is a new and overwhelming stressor.

Many of us are experiencing fear, anxiety, isolation, long days trying to teach and entertain our kids…. and an increase in stress.

So, let’s take a deep breath and think about de-stressing.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

When you are anxious or stressed, your GABA receptors are activated to manage the anxiety and stress that you are experiencing. Your body produces a higher level of cortisol and your nervous system enters a heightened state of activity.

Below are a few of BYWG’s favorite herbal remedies and natural stress-busters

🌿 L-theanine

This amino acid can be found in green tea. So fix yourself a hot cup or a cold glass!

Studies have shown that L-theanine has a soothing property that produces calming and anti-anxiety benefits.

🌿 Chamomile

Another tea option, chamomile has an abundance of an antioxidant called apigenin. The calming, anxiety reducing, tranquil effects of chamomile are often attributed to this antioxidant.

🌿 Bacopa extract

Bacoba extract can be ordered as a powder or a capsule. This extract is said to  naturally reduce production of the stress hormone cortisol.

🌿 Kava Kava

This Pacific Island plant is used to create a traditional calming tonic. You can order kava kava tea or extract. The tonic influences your GABA receptors and increases your body’s natural ability to manage stress.

🌿 Lavender

You can drink lavender tea, use lavender essential oil, or keep a lavender plant in your home. Qualities of lavender have a natural soothing and sedative effect on your central nervous system.  (Lemon balm has the same properties as lavender as well!)

🌿 Passionflower

The flowering bloom is an old folk remedy. Studies have shown that consuming a supplemental dose of passionflower extract is as effective as anti-anxiety prescriptions!

🌿 Eucalyptus

Inhaling eucalyptus vapor increases blood circulation to your brain, effectively allowing you to better manage your stress level. Hang a fresh sprig of eucalyptus in your shower and the steam will release its scent and vapor. Great way to start the day!
